Description
Rosemary is an evergreen perennial and a member of the Lamiaceae (mint) family. Harvest the fragrant foliage of this shrub for a variety of uses: cooking, essential oil, tinctures and infusions. Rosemary flavors bread, butter, stuffing, vegetables, stew, and meat dishes. However, it’s a medicinal powerhouse. The entire plant is antiseptic, antispasmodic, aromatic, astringent, cardiac, carminative, cholagogue, diaphoretic, emmenagogue, nervine, stimulant, stomachic and tonic. Harvest leaves in spring and summer, then dry or use fresh. Fun fact: Rosemary can repel insects from neighboring plants; sachets of the leaves can be placed in closets to keep moths away.
