Description
Cayenne Pepper is a annual most known for its culinary use in spicy foods. However it’s also one of the most powerful medicinal herbs in the Solanaceae family. Use of Cayenne Pepper as a medicinal plant dates back to 1200 BC. The dried fruit with their Scoville heat rating of 77,500 can be used to stimulate circulation or as a gastrointestinal detoxifier. When applied topically, Cayenne will numb the nerve endings, acting as a local anesthetic. In fact, capsaicin from the fruit is the main ingredient in many ointments or creams for pain relief. Cayenne is also antibacterial, vermifuge, and prophylactic to cancer and heart disease. In food, Cayenne Pepper is served raw or cooked, dried or ground, and the seeds may be ground or used whole on pizza and other dishes.. Download our Cayenne Pepper Plant PDF Reference sheet.
