Description
Anise Hyssop is an easy-to-grow perennial in the mint family. Anise Hyssop, or Licorice Mint, attracts bees and other pollinators to the garden with its spikes of lavender flowers. The Iroquois made a wash from this medicinal herb used to relieve poison ivy itch. In addition, Anise Hyssop is believed to have mood-lifting qualities. Therapeutically the plant has antioxidant, cardiac and diaphoretic properties. Harvest the leaves just before flowering and infuse to treat colds, fevers, and a weak heart. You may also use Agastache leaves and stems in a poultice to treat burns or in a salve to treat wounds. The leaves have an anise (licorice) scent and can be enjoyed in salads and teas. Use its seeds in baked goods. Finally, the flowers are edible and make a great addition to fruit salad, drinks or desserts. Download our Anise Hyssop Plant PDF Reference sheet.
