Description
Burn Jelly Plant is a succulent medicinal herb in the Asphodelaceae family. Also known as First Aid Plant, Bulbine frutescens is used for its antiseptic and haemostatic therapeutic actions. To use, squeeze gel from the leaves and use topically for for burns, rashes, blisters, bites, chapped lips, cold sores and sunburn (similar properties to aloe). Some studies show benefits for treating eczema and arthritis and acne.
This South African native will overwinter on a bright indoor windowsill but can spend summers outside in full sun where it will attract pollinators. Its flower stalks tower up to 2 feet and feature yellow and orange star-shaped blooms. Download our Burn Jelly Plant PDF Reference sheet.
