Description
Chinese or Siberian Motherwort is a biennial in the Lamiaceae (mint) family. Also known as Marihuanilla or Honeyweed, this medicinal herb has been used for many years in Asia and Europe. It grows tall, erect, full of vibrant purple flower spikes and makes a showstopping hedge that is beloved by pollinators. This variety of Motherwort is known to have antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant activity. In Chinese medicine this medicinal plant is unique in that it is often used on its own and not in a mixture with other plants. Use Siberian Motherwort in the treatment of painful and excessive menstruation, post-partum bleeding, edema, kidney stones, eczema and abscesses. L. sibericus can also been used externally for rheumatism or arthritis. It is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant. Harvest the seeds, flowers and leaves in a relaxing tea or in tinctures.
